Hi.

I’m Joseph.

Never Fewer Steps

Never Fewer Steps

I’ve been learning tennis. It started last May when a friend invited me to play. He’d played competitively. I’d take a physical education credit in college that was called “tennis".” Ha. I got smoked time after time in the early days.

Now, after a year of very gracious doubles play with a crew of guys that put up with my learning curve combined with a super active Platform Tennis season, a lesson here and a drill session there - I can say the sport is becoming super enjoyable.

Along the way I’ve been taking key notes for myself. I review them once a week or so now and when I do I visualize when I learned each point and when I’ve done it right.

Maybe this helps you too. Enjoy! :) An incomplete list of Tennis dos:

Both Forehand & Back

  • Walk through, if ball is far

  • Plant, if near

  • Can't ever take too many [little] steps

  • Get low with your legs on the volley, low

Backhand

  • Low racquet (can't be too low)

  • Lots of small steps

  • Follow to right shoulder

  • Left hand doing the work

  • Or pull the racquet from the left hand on a one handed shot

Serve

  • Like a baseball throw

  • Elbow up

  • Toss at forehead

  • Land 12 in front, 12 to the right

  • 2nd, brush through, aim right
